Pony Camp at Seattle Farm

We have hosted a day camp for approximately 12 children from Bertschi school for the last 6 consecutive years. To see the camps we are currently offering go to the upcoming events page. We may add another camp and if you want to be the first to know add your name to the camp waitlist below. The most ideal scenario is when parents come up with their own group for camp and dates (ideally 3 mid-week days). If you could come up with a group, please use the Contact Us link and we will work on dates for your group. If you would like to be included in a camp email list, please sign up below and we will see if we can put something together.

Description of Camp

We welcome beginner and intermediate riders (ideal age 6 yrs old and up) to a three-day camp (9am-3pm) at Seattle Farm. Campers will be learning safety, grooming, proper leading and groundwork, horse breeds, body parts, conformation, behavioral patterns, animal husbandry and of course riding! Activities may include riding in the covered arena and on trails, musical horses, horse bathing, pony-in-hand obstacles, sending horses through jumping chutes, and examining horse skulls and hooves. If available, we may have our veterinarian, farrier or horse dentist come to camp to provide direct learning from experts in their fields. Because Lisa Sferra is an M.D. specializing in family practice, the camp has a strong science component and may include vaccinating and worming all livestock at the farm, and anatomy lessons with clinical correlations using real animal organs.

Gloria Sferra, who judged horse shows in our area for more than 25 years, will point out some of the finer points of horse conformation and will likely take us on a tour of her extensive tack room and bit collection in the ground floor of the original farmhouse.

Lisa and Garth’s daughter, Gigi Sferra Olsen, will do the technical riding instruction. Gigi has a long history of riding and showing. In 2017, she took one of the farm ponies, Cajun, to the Pony Finals at the Kentucky Horse Park and won a bronze medal in pony jumpers. Other farm equestrians will also help provide supervision during camp. We aim for at least one helper for every three campers. All of our camp ponies and horses (11 of them) are well-seasoned. Supervising adults include farm owners: Lisa Sferra MD, her husband, Garth Olsen, their adult children: Army and Gigi Olsen and Gloria Sferra, aka “Grandma”.

If you already have a group of 10-12 that is awesome go to the Contact Us page and tell us about your group, and we will see if we can accommodate you.
